We found out on a Saturday morning. Steve did not think BK was on the way...Carey did because of her quick calculations. Steve made Carey wait a whole 6 DAYS to take the pregnancy test. Carey woke up early on Saturday morning, rolled over and woke up Steve, saying, "Today is the day!"
So, took the test, left it in the bathroom covered up with the instructions. Steve promptly set his watch to 3 minutes and we anxiously waited. The timer went off and we went to investigate together. We were thrilled to see two, bold, pink lines (Steve thought that meant it would be a girl....just kidding). That happened on June 5.
While Steve was very happy, he wasn't quite convinced. Monday, June 7, we went up to Peterson AFB to get a blood test. And, wouldn't you know...It came back positive. We were headed out to Michigan THAT DAY to see our family and were so excited to tell them in person!
Steve's family heard the news first. Because Steve is deploying soon, he will not be home on his birthday. Therefore, his mom, AKA Grandma Klenke, wanted to celebrate birthday's (including Andy and Carey's) on Tuesday night, June 8. What they didn't know was that we had a present for them! We bought a book for Grandma (titled I love you Grandma!) and also one for Grandpa (I Love You Grandpa!) So, after everyone thought the present exchange was over. We gave them their books. Grandma started crying immediately, and Grandpa was confused as to why we gave him a book. He doesn't like to read. Andy said, "Where's my book?"
Everyone was very happy and excited to hear the news.
Surprise! The proud Mama and Pap
Carey's family heard the news second...We weren't going to visit her parents until later on in the week, so we had to wait to tell them....That was an agonizing couple of days! So, on Thursday night we headed up north with Russ and Jen and the girls to see the Kacin family. The 4.5 hour drive was long, but the whole time we spent dreaming and talking about our future family and how we were going to break the news to the Kacin family. We got up to the house at about 10:30, put the kids to bed, and sat around chatting, waiting for the perfect moment.
Somehow, we started talking about Russ' Godparent. One of Carey's Dad's friends, who was nicknamed "Mean Man" and he personified his name perfectly. Motorcycle driver, black bandannas, wild facial hair, and a deep gruff voice. So, as the conversation ended, Carey quietly said, "Well, it is a good thing we will be pick better Godparents for our kids, because we are pregnant!" The room went silent for what seemed like days. Jen said, "SHUT UP!" Nana said, "I am going to have a heart attack!" Bubba started crying, and Russ smiled (knowing the pain that awaited us....just kidding!) We then all hugged, started laughing, crying, and carrying on.
(Nana has these pictures, I hope we get them soon).
Sharing those moments with our families was one of our favorite memories of our trip to Michigan.
