I am reading through the OT. Some of it is boring, I won't lie....
However, I just read Ex 32. It is about when Moses went on top of the mountain to meet with the Lord. While he was up there, the people said to themselves "Moses isn't coming back down, let's build an idol and worship that." (that is the Carey paraphrase).
This just baffles me. Really, you are going to build an idol, worship that, when the Lord just showed some crazy signs to get you out of slavery in Egypt? Not just like "oh look at the pretty sky signs..." Signs like killing the first born of all the Egyptians, but saving your first born....I am pretty sure I would be terrified to not believe in that God anymore based on that history.
But...How many times do I doubt God? Something doesn't go as I planned and I say, "God, where are you? I need you...Show up." And to me it seems like he doesn't show up. I get angry. I look to other sources.
I am so quick to discount what He is doing in my life and say it is coincidence or luck.
Isn't this what they did in Exodus 32? For 40 days God "didn't show up" in their mind. Moses had disappeared. They sought to control things on their own.
I want this to be a lesson to me. This is so basic and I have heard it a million times, but my timing is NOT God's timing. My plans are not always God's plans. And, when things get hairy or when I doubt him I need to trust on his faithfulness of the past. He doesn't work on a timeline. I need to believe that he will show up because I know he will.

Another part that bothers me about this is vs 22-24....Aaron says, "They gave me their gold, I threw it in the fire and out came this calf!" Really Aaron? For reals? You threw gold into a fire and out came a calf??? If anyone has any insight into what I think is a crazy lie, please explain!! Why did THIS part make it into the Bible?
I don't really have amazing insight because I have read this passage before as well, and I have thought the same thing. First, it made me even think of the disciples who got the incredible experience to WATCH Jesus perform miracles and they still doubted! Really?!? You have watched, and seen with your own eyes! But then you asked about Aaron and I have the cheater bible (aka NIV study) and I love that in the notes it says "Aaron could hardly have thought that Moses would believe such an incredible story." Oh Aaron!
